5 Must Visit Cities in Morocco

visiting Morocco

Prepare yourself to step out of your comfort zone and indulge in an incredible culture, mouthwatering cuisine, fantastic shopping and crafts and experiences you will never forget. When I visited Morocco, I did a Northern tour so my list of top 5 cities is not exhaustive of all the incredible places you should visit when coming to Morocco but these should definitely make it to the top of your list!

Marrakesh

Probably most traveler’s favorite city. It is packed with so much to see and do including some of the most incredible markets.  Some of the best things to check out include: Marjorelle Gardens, Palais Bahia, Palais Badi, Saadian Tombs, Museum of Marrakech, Photography Museum, Medersa Ben Youssef, Koutoubia Mosque and of course you must check out the main square Djemaa el Fna. If you want markets and souvenirs, this is the city.

Chefchaoeun

With blue buildings everywhere and walls adorned with plants and plenty of cats. You’ll fall in love. This small town feels very artistic and very safe. If you have the time, make sure to hike to the Spanish Mosque which is about 2 km from the town as it gives fantastic views of the city below.

Cassablanca

Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco and is truly bustling. It is often your first step into Morocco.  You must check out the Hassan II Mosque and do the tour inside. While here you can also explore the Medina, visit the Cathedral du Sacre, and walk the Corniche. You may also want to check out the Museum of Moroccan Judaism or the Morocco Mall.

fes

If medinas are your thing, then this is the city for you. Prepare to get lost in a maze of incredible shops and let your senses be bombarded. It is mesmerizing with the people, animals, shops, markets, mosques and tanneries.  Make sure to check out the Royal Palace of Fez, Borj Nord Fortress, Al-Attarine Madrasa, Bou Inania Medersa, and the infamous Chaouwara Tanneries.

Tangier

This could be your entry point into Morocco if traveling by ferry from Spain. It is where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic. While here you should check out Cap Spartal, the Beach, and the Hercules Caves.
