Cable cars are located all over the world and particularly at some amazing tourist destinations. They are a great way to enjoy a nice ride up to a beautiful vista. This list includes the cable cars that I have had the pleasure of riding and that I would highly recommend!
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
Cape Town, South Africa
This cable car is about a 5 minute ride up 3,573 (1089 meter). Once you are on the top you will have beautiful views of Cape Town and the surrounding mountains and ocean. Another alternative is to hike up Table Mountain and take the cable car down.
This 15 minute ride up 2,323 feet (708 meter) brings you to the iconic SkyBridge. The SkyBridge is a 125 m curved suspension bridge which is one of the most unique pedestrian bridges in the world. At the top there are loads of attractions such as SkyDome, SkyRex and 3D art Langkawi which are included in the price of the cable car.
This cable car ride is a 25 minute ride on the 3.5 mile long cable from Tung Chung on Lantau Island to the Tian Tan Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery. The ride up is epic and the attractions are not to be missed when visiting Hong Kong.
This cable car climbs 1,476 feet (450 meters) to the top of Bob’s Peak overlooking Queenstown. It boasts being the steepest cable car in the Southern Hemisphere. You can also hike up to the complex at top on Tiki trail which takes about 1 hour. At the top you can dine at the Stratosphere- advanced reservations recommended or buy a combined ticket and include a luge ride.
This epic cable car takes you up the Machla Magra Hills to the Karni Mata Temple. From the top you get epic views of Udaipur, Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Sajjangarh Fort and the City Palace Complex. It is a fabulous place to watch sunset.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
Cairns, Australia
This awesome cable car is located 15 minutes north of Cairns. It is is a 4.7 mile long tourist cableway to Kuranda. On the way, you can stop at Red Peak and Barron Falls to explore with the final destination of Kuranda Village. You can either take the cable car there and back or take the Kuranda Scenic Railway back.
To this vista, you can take the cable car or the funicular. It is a 4 minute ride up the 820 to Calle 26 and 3,152 meters to the station on the hill. At the top you will find the beautiful Sanctuary. You can also dine at the top at some great restaurants. On Mondays and holidays only the funicular is running.
This cable car is located in the Metropolitan Park of San Cristobal in Santiago, Chile. The cable runs over 3 miles. You can stop at the zoo and two other stops to see the impressive city vista below. The cable car is closed on Mondays and is busiest on weekends.
