The United Kingdom (UK) is a sovereign nation made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Located off the northwestern coast of mainland Europe, the UK is known for its deep historical roots, cultural influence, and global significance. London, the capital, is a leading global city renowned for its history, art, and architecture, including iconic landmarks like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the Tower of London. In Scotland, visiting great cities including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness or exploring the highlands and whiskey are a must. In Northern Ireland, visiting Belfast and checking out the Giant Causeway should be on your list. Outside of London you can consider visiting Oxford, Brighton, Stonehenge, Bath, York Minster, Lake District National Park, Cliffs of Dover and Snowdonia National Park.
Additionally, the United Kingdom has several overseas territories. Islands in the Caribbean including Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Monserrat and Turks and Caicos. Other overseas islands include the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha as well as the British Antarctic Territory and the British Indian Ocean Territory. Both the UK and Argentina make claims to the Falkland Islands.
