Why El Salvador Should be your next Travel Destination

el salvador

El Salvador is often overlooked when planning a trip to Central America. Sandwiched between Guatemala and Honduras and the Pacific Ocean. It has, unfortunately, had a decline in tourism secondary to being deemed a dangerous country but most tourist destinations as truly safe. Being not on everyone’s radar has a wealth of cute towns, amazing beaches and natural beauty that should not be missed. See tips on how to get there, get around and top things you should do when you come to visit.

how to get here

El Salvador International Airport is where most tourists fly into the country. It is located about 31 miles south of San Salvador.

how to get around

The easiest two ways to get around is by taking buses between cities or renting a car. Most major roads are paved and in good condition but be aware that drivers are more reckless often speeding, turning without signals, and cutting off other drivers. You will need a valid driver’s license. It is better to travel during the daylight hours rather than at night. Be aware of not keeping valuables in your car due to theft or park your car in secure locations.

when to visit

The dry season is between December through March. The peak tourist seasons are around Semana Santa preceding Easter Sunday and mid-December through New Year’s. Surfers will enjoy better surfing in the wet months between March and November. Another busy time is during the Festival El Salvador which occurs in August.
