Miami is a top tourist destination in Florida. If you want beautiful beaches, boating, dining and nightlife options, culture, city life and more this place is for you. You will not be bored with all there is to offer. 

how to get to miami

The nearest airport is the Miami International Airport (MIA) which is about 7 miles which is approximately a 15 minutes drive from the downtown area of Miami and about 11 miles or 25 minutes to South Beach area of Miami. You can also fly into the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)   which is about 25 miles (40 minutes) to downtown Miami and  35 miles (50 minutes) to South Beach.

Key West, FL is about 163 miles away 3 hour 35 minutes.

Tampa, FL is 279 miles away about 4 hours 10 minutes.

Orlando, FL 235 miles away about 3 hours 45 minutes. 

getting around miami

You can easily visit Miami without needing a car. To get from the airport to downtown or Brickell area you can take the MIA Mover and once you are downtown you can use the free Metromover to get around the city. Ride share apps are easy to use to get around to various places that are not in the direct downtown. If you rent a car and stay downtown, Brickell or South Beach be prepared to pay to park. You may want to consider renting a car for a day to get out of the city or explore other areas.

We stayed at the Downtown/Brickell area which was in a prime location. This was so central and walkable to the a number of restaurant, bars, shops. 

Another top place to stay is South Beach known for its iconic beaches, art deco architecture, and incredible nightlife. 

Other really incredible neighborhoods to stay in are Wynwood, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Coconut Grove, Bal Harbour and more.

South Beach

Iconic beaches, incredible history, art deco architecture, nightlife galore. While here definitely check out Lincoln Road, Ocean Road, Miami Beach Boardwalk, South Pointe Park and more. 

Brickell/Downtown

Brickell and Downtown area of Miami is filled with bars, shops, great restaurants and more. It is a central place to be. You can stroll around Brickell Key which gives amazing views of the skyline. While here check out the Wharf Miami, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Perez Art Museum, Frost Museum of Science, Bayside Marketplace and more. 

Key Biscayne 

This little barrier island across the Rickenbacker Causeway from Miami. While here you can check out the Cape Florida Lighthouse in Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park or relax on the beach in Crandon Park. Key Biscayne also has the Miami Seaquarium. Also The Cleat is a cool spot for sunset drinks near No Name Harbor. 

Wynwood

If you are into the artsy or craft brewery scene, this place should be at the top of your places to visit. It is a hip neighborhood with awesome murals and unique art galleries. It has numerous amazing craft breweries. While here check out the Wynwood Walls outdoor museum. 

Calle Ocho/Little Havana

This little section should be on your list to check out! It is full of culture and style. While here you can see people playing dominos in Domino Park, visit Cuban Cigar shops, enjoy Cuban cuisine, have some ice cream at Azucar, grab a craft beer at Union Beer,  and check out the Calle 8 stars. 

Take a boat tour

You can really enjoy Miami by boat. You can get a great view of the city and depending on your tour checkout lighthouses, Stittsville, the keys and more. 

Live up the nightlife

Miami has some of the liveliest bars and clubs all over. Make sure to dress to impress when coming to Miami. Some of the top clubs include LIV Miami, Basement, E11even, Story, Floyd, Twist and more. If clubbing isn’t your scene there are too many bars to count and so many incredible craft breweries.
