Seneca Rocks is located at the junction of route 55 and 33 in West Virginia by car. It is about 22 miles from the town of Petersburg and about 31 miles from Davis. You can park at the trail parking lot or at the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center.
the Seneca Rocks hike
The Seneca Rocks Hike is a popular hike leading to an observation platform with incredible views. It is a 1.3 mile (2.6 miles out and back) trail that gains over 700 feet in elevation through series of switchbacks and stairs. There is a warning sign at the area of the rocks that recommends against hiking further without gear and mentions previous fatalities so proceed at your own risk. Beyond that sign you can climb up some rocks to truly appreciate the geological formation. We went at sunset so you get a direct view of the sunsetting. I imagine it would be excellent to hike in the morning to light up the valley and mountains.
where to stay
Seneca Rocks is itself a small town. There are some cabins and campgrounds in the area. You may also be able to find some rentals on AirBNB. When we were in the area we stayed in Petersburg, WV. This was about 22 miles northeast of Seneca Rocks.
