Known for its iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, and the Reichstag, Berlin embodies a blend of historical significance and modern innovation. Things to do in Berlin

Brandenburg Gate

This is the top attraction when you look up must visit sites of Berlin. It is an iconic 18th-century neoclassical monument that symbolizes unity and peace. 

Berlin Wall Memorial

The Berlin Wall Memorial commemorates the division of Berlin and lives lost during the Cold War. It features original wall sections, a watchtower and visitor center. 

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie can be visited to view the famous Cold War era border crossing. There is an adjacent museum that goes into espionage and escape attempts. 

Museum Island

Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the place for some world-class museums The five world-renowned museums include  Pergamon, Bode, Altes,  Neues Museum and the Alte Nationalgalerie. This island is situated on the Spree River.

East Side Gallery

This open-air gallery is along a remaining section of the Berlin Wall and spans about 1.3 kilometers. It features over 100 murals by artists around the word and celebrates freedom and artistic expression. 

Reichstag Building

Tour the historic parliament building and enjoy panoramic views from the glass dome.

Walking tour

Whenever I go to a new big city, I take full advantage of free walking tours. On these tours you can tip what you feel is appropriate but it is a great way to get insights into the area and history of various buildings. While in Berlin, we did a walking tour of some of the top sites. 

Tiergarten

Berlin’s central park is perfect place for picnics, walks and outdoor activities while visiting Berlin! It spans 210 hectares and notable monuments like the Victory Column. 

Holocaust Memorial

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is a poignant memorial consisting of 2,711 concrete slabs of varying heights. It was designed by architect Peter Eisenman to honor the six million victims of the Holocaust. It evokes a sense of loss and disorientation with its maze like experience. 

Fernsehturm (TV Tower) and Alexanderplatz

The TV Tower is located in Alexanderplatz which is a bustling square. You can go up to the observation deck of the TV Tower to experience stunning city views. You can purchase tickets to do the observation deck plus VR experience or drink at Sphere Bar. It is open 9 AM until 11 PM daily. 

Other top tourist attractions

Some other top attractions in the Berlin area include the Berlin Cathedral, Charlottenburg Palace, Jewish Museum, Berlin Zoo, Tempelhofer Feld, Gendarmenmarkt, Potsdamer Platz, Unter den Linden, Hackescher Markt and more.
