Different Styles of Camping for your own Adventure

camping

Camping is by definition the act of vacationing in a camp, tent or camper. There are many reasons why people choose to camp. Camping has been considered great for the health benefits of fresh air, decreased stress, promoting exercise, and connecting with nature. Camping is also a fun and affordable way to travel. It is a great way to socialize with others with similar passions. If you find yourself weary of concerns about avoiding bad weather, lack of internet, dealing with meals, bugs, or animals than staying at a B&B or hotel may be a better choice. But if you are up for an adventure and everlasting great stories than camping is definitely for you!

Types of camping

When you think of classic camping, the first thing you think of is a tent. However, there are so many ways to camp ranging from the most basic of survival camping to luxury camping in RVs or by glamping. It is great to explore these common forms of camping to find out what you really enjoy doing.

Classic Camping/tent camping

The most classic camping is tent camping. With tent camping you bring your tent and set it up where you land. You can do this via driving to your campsite via car, motorcycle, van and pitching your tent. Alternatively, you can get ultralight gear and bicycle, canoe or backpack to get to some more isolated campsites. When picking your campsite you can stay at many RV parks that have wifi, showers, laundry, amenities (varies from pools, mini golf, playgrounds) or you can pick more primitive sites without wifi, running water, or electricity.

Comfort Camping/Glamping/RV/Camper Van

If you are looking for an easy and comfortable camping like experience you can consider glamping which is like a boutique experience from plush beds in canvas tents, canopy forest huts, yurts and Instagram ready places to stay. If you want to bring your comfort with you, you can consider a camper van or RV. You can be flexible with these for hookups or dry camping but you will likely want to make sure to reserve hook ups in advance especially in popular regions or during high seasons.

overland camping

Overlanding is another specific type of camping. You can do this with your own overland vehicle. Some vehicles get a roof tent that pops up when you arrive at your destination. You can also pack a tent and set up shop wherever you want. You can also join overland tours which are generally cheaper than classic tours but you have to put up your tent each night on arrival to your destination.

Lightweight camping

Backpackers and bicyclists who have to carry their gear tend to err on the side of lightweight tents, minimal gear and sufficient supplies. They tend to be camping in more remote areas after hiking or biking to the desired location. Hammock camping is another popular way to camp. It is ideal for those who need lightweight gear to carry. It is ideal for backpackers or bike camping. You can purchase hammocks with rain covers and bug nets to protect yourself from the elements.

Experienced/survival camping

The most extreme form of camping is survival camping. This should be reserved for more experienced backpackers and campers. The idea is that you survive off of foraging, hunting and gathering.  It tests the idea of being self sufficient and employs advanced camping and survival skills.
