If you are a fan of the Caribbean then you have heard of Jamacia. Jamacia is known for its vibrant culture from reggae music, nightlife and incredible cuisine. Ocho Rios, a vibrant town on Jamaica’s northern coast, is famous for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and adventure-filled attractions. Ocho Rios is a common cruise stop and a popular day tour from Montego Bay. It is packed with incredible things to do.
Ocho Rios Day Tour
Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios is a great place to stay if you are looking for more adventure activities. There is ziplining, dolphin experiences, and an abundance of waterfall areas including Blue Hole, Secret Falls and the famous Dunn’s River Falls.
Where is Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios is located on the northern part of the island. Many people choose to stay in this area but you can also visit as a day tour from Montego Bay. It is located 100 km from Montego Bay which is about 1 hour 45 minute and 176 km from Negril around 3 hours 15 minutes.
Why it works as day tour
There is so much to do in Ocho Rios you can easily spend several days here to check out all it has to offer but if you want to stay in Montego Bay or Negril you can also visit on a day tour. I would highly recommend from Montego Bay as Negril is even farther. It is a great way to hit the highlights of this area by doing a day tour. There are all sorts of tours with different companies depending on the things you want to include.
day tour itinerary
First Stop -Montego Bay Pickup
Most tours offer pickup from the main hotels and resorts in Montego Bay. I saw several reviews complaining when people stayed in non-hotel accommodations regarding pick up and drop off. We stayed at the S Hotel located on Doctors Cave Beach in Montego Bay. At pick up, we needed to present the ticket or a photo ID with the name on the reservation. We booked the tour through Viator.
Next Stop -Pick up more passengers
The negative about taking a day tour is that you have to pick up a bunch more passengers along the way. We were the first pick up so we had to stop along the drive to pick up other guests. Along the way the tour guide asked fun Jamaica trivia and pointed out the Rose Hall Plantation and talked about the ghost there.
Next Stop -Souvenir Shop
Another very common thing with tour groups is the obligatory tourist souvenir shop. This was also our rest stop for the bathroom which was much needed. This tour requires water shoes so several of the guests were purchasing them here.
Blue Hole and Secret Falls
Nestled in the lush Jamaican rainforest, the Blue Hole features deep, crystal-clear turquoise waters ideal for swimming, cliff jumping, and rope swinging. Nearby, Secret Falls offers cascading waterfalls and serene pools. Less crowded than other attractions, this hidden gem offers an authentic and refreshing experience, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking adventure in Jamaica.
Lunch Break
The tour included a lunch break. We stopped at Linda’s which had options of jerk chicken, vegetable platter, oxtail, and pork. The meal was not included in the ticket and we had to pay with cash. Make sure to check your tour inclusion and see if you need to bring extra cash for lunch or pack a lunch and snacks. It is a very active day so you will want to eat!
Dunn’s River Falls
Dunn’s River Falls is one of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions. It is a stunning 600-foot-long, terraced waterfall that cascades down limestone rocks, creating beautiful natural pools along the way. Visitors can climb the falls by forming a guided human chain. The falls flow directly into the Caribbean Sea, adding to their uniqueness. It is a must visit while in Jamaica!
Last stop- Return to Montego Bay
After Dunn’s River Falls, we took the journey back to Montego Bay. Lucky for us, we were the first picked up and the last dropped off. On the drive back the tour had beers for purchase and our guide did some trivia.
Plan your trip
Visiting Blue Hole, Secret Falls and Dunn’s River Falls was one of the highlights of visiting Jamacia! It is a definite must do on your itinerary. My biggest tips are make sure to bring cash, waterproof camera or waterproof case for your phone, and water shoes!
