If you are flying to the area, the closest airports are Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) or Ronald Reagan International Airport (DCA). The drive from Baltimore is about 80 miles or 1 hour 45 minute drive while the drive from Washington D.C is about 65 miles away or 1 hour 30 minutes drive. Richmond, Virginia is about 110 miles away or 2 hours 9 minutes.
getting Around
The best way to get to Solomons, Maryland is by car and once you are there you will get around by foot or by car. It is fairly small so walking around the neighborhoods or along the Solomon Island Boardwalk is a great way to explore this little village.

Calvert Marine Museum
The Calvert Marine Museum is a great museum to visit. It is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 children 5-12 and free for children under 5. It is open daily from 10 AM- 5PM. It has exhibits, marsh walk and otter experience.
Lighthouses
There are a few lighthouses in the area that are worth checking out. The Drum Point Lighthouse is right next to the Marine Museum. The Cove Point Lighthouse is open to visitors Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 1PM-4PM from May through September. The Cove Point Keeper’s House is available for house rental and sleeps 16 guests.
Stroll the Solomons Island Boardwalk
The boardwalk offers scenic views of the Patuxent River and passes by shops and restaurants. It is a great place for birdwatching and watching sunset!
Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center
The Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center is open from 9AM-5PM. It is free to visit with suggested donation of $5. You can wander art installations, sculpture garden and check out weekend festivals.
Boat cruising
There are several options for boat cruising or sailing around the area. This is a great way to relax on the water of the Chesapeake Bay. Some options include Solomon Island Sailing or Blue Heron Boat Cruises.
Fishing
Fishing is a popular attraction here. You can do a fishing charter. Options include Hook Marsh Charters or Miss Susie Charters.
Calvert Cliffs State Park
Calvert Cliffs State Park is nearby and not to be missed. It is $5 per vehicle for in state visits. You can hike the Red Trail to the famous beach where you can comb for fossils and see the sandy cliffs. Check out my guide HERE!
