Top things to do in Big Island, Hawaii

Big Island, Hawaii

Hawaii is an archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean and part of the United States. The Big Island is the largest in the archipelago. It is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts offering abundant watersport activities from surfing, boating, snorkeling and more. One of the most visited islands is the Big Island. This incredible island has beautiful beaches, fantastic hiking, wonderful national parks and historic sites and tons of things to do! Here are some of the top tourist destinations around Big Island!

Getting around

This itinerary is a driving tour so renting a car is a must. If you do not want to rent a car there are other ways to get around such as shuttles, taxis, ride-shares. Many people when visiting Hawaii set up at a resort and can take day tours from their accommodations. I definitely prefer the flexibility to have a car.

Pololū Valley

Pololū Valley is located in the northeastern portion of Big Island. It is a great place to take in the overlook and hike down the beach. The hike down is 0.6 miles with an elevation change of 420 feet. The bottom is stunning with black sand beaches surrounded by the cliffs.

Hawai’i National Park

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is located on Big Island in Hawaii. It is known for its  volcanic terrain, sunrises and sunsets, stargazing, hiking and more.  Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has an active volcano.
